Undead Labs Announce Zombie MMO

In a sneaky bit of riding Left 4 Dead 2′s zombie + game media wave, new studio Undead Labs announced they are working on a zombie MMO exclusively for console gamers.
Undead Labs is a Seattle, Washington-based game development studio that’s on a mission to take online gaming in bold new directions. Our singular focus is to create the definitive massively multiplayer zombie game (MMOZ) for console gamers. Nothing screams funny quite like wading into a group of rotting zombies with a lawn chair and a box of sharpened #2 pencils, and nothing says fun quite like doing it with your friends, whether online or on your couch.
Veteran MMO programmer, producer and developer Jeff Strain, who has worked on the likes of Guild Wars and something called World of Warcraft (is that popular?), today gave a series of interviews and unveiled his new project to the world.
Having spent the last few years pondering about the best method of defense in a zombie attack, it only seemed logical to him to make a game about it. The interviews, FAQs and press releases are a bit scattered about, so Zombie Command brings you our own, important bits, break down.
Q: When can I play it?
A: Not yet. Expect to wait about 3 years.
Q: What platform will it be on?
A: High End consoles. Currently Xbox 360 and PS3, but in 3 years, who knows!
Q: Fast or slow zombies?
A: Unclear. Jeff’s a fan of fast zombies but don’t be surprised to have both. It’s not easy to vary zombies as enemies.
Q: What’s it actually about?
A: The game will focus on rebuilding civilization in the face of a zombie horde. I also predict you will get to kill zombies (you heard it here first!)
Q: Will I be micro-transactioned to financial ruin? Is Undead Labs owned by EA?
A: Undead Labs certainly doesn’t appear to be owned by EA and as such the model will be subscription based. It worked for WoW!
Q: What’s the best quote from the interviews?
A: “We need the guilt-free meat puppets.”
Never a more true word said.
We’ll bring you more information as we get it!
