Left 4 Dead: Roundup

A lot has happened in the world of Left 4 Dead in the last week so I’ll just give you fellow gamers a quick round-up of what’s happening.

Left 4 Dead 2 Boycotters Flown to Valve HQ
The two guys that started the Left 4 Dead 2 boycott group were flown out to Valve’s offices and met up with boss and game developer Gabe Newell.
The move was a gesture to reach out to community members, allay their fears that Left 4 Dead is going to be abandoned and show off how different Left 4 Dead 2 is. Unfortunately not everybody sees it this way.
Other group members have now boycotted the boycotters, branding them traitors for going and that they’ve been ‘paid off’ (reviews of L4D2 from them were favourable).

Valve Boycott Boycotters
In response to the Left 4 Dead 2 boycotters being flown out to Valve, one Australian resident (Joe W-A) questioned Gabe about why he wasn’t flown out so they can playtest his campaign. The response -

We are boycotting your campaign.

So now Joe W-A is having to fly Gabe Newall and Erik Johnson out to discuss the Left 4 Dead 2 changes and has started a fund to try and get them over. Needing about $2,400 USD for return flights Joe is already at $3,089.45 and both Gabe and Erik have pledged to go out and test his campaign.
With any extra funds going to Penny Arcade’s Child’s Play, you can still donate over on the blog.

Left 4 Dead 2 Melee Weapons Announced
With Left 4 Dead 2 shipping in just a few weeks all ten melee weapons have been announced, but still expect a few surprises when you start blasting zombies on November 20th, as I’ve already head there’s acoustic versions to match the electric guitars, if you prefer a more mellow sound when you’re bashing in zombie heads.

  • Baseball Bat

  • Cricket Bat
  • Katana
  • Chainsaw
  • Crowbar
  • Electric Guitar
  • Fire Axe
  • Machete
  • Frying Pan
  • Tonfa

New Left 4 Dead DLC
Word on the street is that after Crash Course is released for Left 4 Dead 1 you’ve not seen the end of DLC for it.
After returning from their tour of the Valve offices (see above if you’re memory span is too short), Walking_Target blogged about further DLC being available for the original game.

Now for some good news: There is more DLC for Left 4 Dead coming after CrashCourse. We were given a rough idea of what it should be, however we were asked not to talk too much about it so it didn’t “influence the creative process”. I can tell you this: it’ll either be a new Special Infected, a new Campaign or new Weapon(s). It’s definitely one of the three, perhaps more. This is pretty much the only thing that we were asked not to talk about

Left 4 Dead – Crash Course – DLC
Word on the street is that this Left 4 Dead 1 DLC is dropping on, or before September 23rd.
Xbox’s Game with Fame (where us mere mortals get to game with ‘celebrities’) will be able to play against Paramore in some Crash Course action.
Unless it’s a sneak peek just for those lucky few that get to play them, it’s a safe bet you’ll have it downloaded before then.
Sounds good to me!
